HOW MAY WE SERVE YOU?
PIANO MOVING
PROTECTING YOUR PRICELESS INSTRUMENT
10,000 PARTS TO PROTECT
We know your piano is worth more than its purchase price to you and your family. Perhaps it has been in your family for years, passed down from generation to generation. It is a source of learning and joy for you and your children, and it is simply irreplaceable. When moving a piano, our movers approach with a mentality of utmost seriousness.
Only movers with the proper strength and training - while utilizing expert equipment - are put to the task. This eliminates potential damage to your fragile instrument. There are over 10,000 moving parts in a piano, and this is why it is so crucial that it is moved correctly, avoiding any hiccups and bumps.
Pianos need to be protected in a particular way. We analyze the entire process of moving the piano, from where it has been, to where it will end up - as well as consider the transit in-between. We take all necessary measures to prevent damage and injury, such as:
Using plastic to protect the keys and keyguard from accruing damage during travel
Removal of the music stand, and sometimes pedals to prevent damage
Covering the piano entirely in multiple blankets, securing them tightly in cellophane wrap
Tightly fastening heavy duty ratchet straps to the piano, binding it to a floor dolly
Use of professional shoulder dollies to lift and maneuver with extra control and precision
THE PROCESS OF MOVING A PIANO
Ideally, it is best to have more than 3 or more movers on a piano. When loading up into the truck, two people occupying either side of the truck ramp support the piano, as two people on the ramp bring it slowly but surely into the truck bed.
Being such a heavy item, sometimes up to 800 pounds, it is crucial that the time spent during transit inside the truck is taken into account. Without proper placement on the truck bed, the piano can become damaged or incredibly detuned. We place the piano facing with the keys towards the wall to protect it from other items, while resting the piano itself on-top of the back wheels of the truck. We then strap it tightly to the wall with heavy duty ratchet straps. These steps provide for the best shock absorption potential, keeping the piano from bouncing around.
We do not stack on-top of it, and when the time comes, we drive very conscientiously to your destination. While on the road, gentle driving is key - protecting all those moving parts - and keeping the detuning to a minimum.
Once we have arrived at the unload destination, we take great care bringing your beloved instrument into its new home, using the same techniques we utilized when loading. Be prepared - We love music so we may ask to hear you play after the move is over - not required of course!
MOVING SAFES WITH SAFETY
With a safe emptied, we carefully remove the door, which actually comprises a good portion of the weight of the entire safe. We wrap up the safe in protective blankets and cellophane wrap, and tightly secure the safe to a utility dolly equipped with straps - in order to keep it from moving away from our crew’s control.
Ideally with at least three people - with one person behind the dolly, and two carefully spotting to provide support - we maneuver the safe deliberately and safely through your home. If we encounter stairs, our crew will work together to heave and brace it - up or down one stair at a time - without rushing. Communication and pacing is crucial here to protect not just the safe, but anybody from injury. There may be up to 2 people on bottom and 2 people up top all working in sync to get the safe up the stairs.
When at the ramp of the truck, ideally we have one mover on either side of the ramp supporting, as one person pulls the dolly up the ramp, and another pushes and supports from the bottom. Within the truck bed, we dedicate a space on a wall which protects the safe from anything else loaded. Similar to the process of loading a piano, this is on the back wheels of the truck, for shock absorption. We rotate the safe so the front is facing towards the wall, and strap it securely with two heavy duty ratchets to keep it in place. Once we have arrived at your next destination to unload, we take the safe to its new location using the same techniques we utilized on the load.
